Junko Yagami -- Love Supreme (ラブ・シュープリーム)

"Love Supreme" was the love ballad written and composed by Junko Yagami(八神純子) for what was then supposed to have been the final movie for the "Uchusenkan Yamato"宇宙戦艦ヤマト...Space Battleship Yamato) series, "Final Yamato" (before the reboot series came on last month) in 1983. The movie had two alternate endings: one had Captain Susumu Kodai and the love of his life, Yuki Mori, in one final embrace before a fadeout and a somewhat boring journey through the stars while veteran thespian Tatsuya Nakadai gave a eulogy on the great vessel.

The other ending was quite a bit more....interesting, shall we say? As Yagami's love song played, we got to see Kodai and Mori consummate their love onscreen and in stereo. Nothing graphic but there was no doubt what was happening there. I could only imagine what some of the audience members were thinking. (Get a third bridge!....inside joke). For me, I had a very cold shower and just thought of Dr. Sado.

A more conventional version was sung by Yagami as her 15th single, released in February 1983. It also came out as part of her 5th original album, "Lonely Girl" a couple of weeks later. Not the finest song she's ever done, but her vocals still soar.
