Tatsuro Yamashita -- Kanashimi no JODY: She Was Crying (悲しみのJODY)

Yup, it's March Break. And right now from my city at least, there are thousands of people heading off by car, bus, train and plane for climes that will allow them to re-experience life that actually has double-digit temperatures of the positive variety, where the word "layers" will actually refer to the structure of certain cocktails rather than survival fashion, and where the only white and fluffy stuff to be seen is on the crest of waves.

So, of course, it's time for another Tatsuro Yamashita(山下達郎) ballad....this time, it's "Kanashimi no JODY" (Sad Jody). Still not even officially out of winter quite yet, the timing, perhaps is a bit odd with Tats warbling about a lost love at the end of summer, but at this point, anything to bring in a bit of sun and surf is very welcome for those of us into Japanese music but not on a vacation. And there's nothing quite like having the famous Yamashita falsetto and his summery arrangements to remind us of the resort pop of the late 70s and early 80s.

This was the first track on his 7th studio album, "Melodies" which came out in June 1983. The above video is the English version while the video below is of the Japanese-language version. Also, for some more audio Vitamin C, you can check out Yamashita's "Kokiatsu Girl"(高気圧ガール).
